The year began, as a Greenwood year should, with the Plough Sunday service at Aslackby. This was rather a special one, since it was the first to be held after a couple of years' absence, for reasons I'm sure we are all happy to forget.
It was followed at the start of April by a visit to Bottesford in Leicestershire, where we performed in aid of the Bottesford Chapel's Bicentenary (a concert which had been postponed from its correct and original date for the reasons hinted at above). This was a gloriously moving event.
Later in the month half a dozen of us attended the always-enjoyable Mid-Shires Quires' Day, hosted by Immanuel's Ground.
In May we took part in the Georgian Weekend at Folkingham, another event postponed though from the previous year this time, and for different reasons.
In June several of us joined the Bedford Gallery Quire for their 20th Anniversary Sing at Diddington in Cambridgeshire.
Something of a hiatus followed, until in September our rehearsal meeting, coinciding with Heritage Weekend, was conducted in costume. The following weekend we sang at the church in near-by Horbling.
At the beginning of October three of us joined the John Moore Quire in Shropshire for their annual singing day, and later in the month were joined by a fourth to attend the WGMA Singing Weekend in Retford.
December's rehearsal meeting was again in costume, its second half being the annual Carol Cafe for dementia sufferers and their carers. During the year we welcomed new members, both singers and players, and, as is the way of things, said farewell to others.
The above is only the year's activities in outline. If you would like to know in more detail about what we get up to, please join the West Gallery Music Association and read all about it (and about so much more) in the Newsletter!
